Zurich’s one-franc transit pass may not arrive until 2028

A cheaper annual public transport pass for Zurich residents is unlikely to be introduced before spring 2028, SRF reports. The city council expects it to cost 195 million francs a year, compared with the 140 million francs originally planned.

The discount could be cut in half if the city’s deficit exceeds 100 million francs. Whether the pass will be introduced at all remains uncertain.

Zurich voters approved the one-franc-a-day pass a year ago. It would be available to city residents as a discount on existing annual passes and general travelcards.

The implementation proposal must first go to the city parliament and then be put to voters again.
