Sturm women seek response against Wolfsburg after 1-6 defeat

SK Sturm’s women will try to show a different side of themselves against Wolfsburg in Wednesday’s Women’s Europa Cup tie, ORF reported. The Graz team lost the first leg 6-1 away and will host the German side in Liebenau in the second leg of the second qualifying round. Kick-off is scheduled for 6.30 p.m., with coverage on ORF Sport+ from 6.25 p.m.

Sturm captain Sophie Maierhofer said the match was an opportunity to test the team against one of Europe’s best sides and gain experience, despite the first-leg result.

Wolfsburg dominated the opening game, and Sturm struggled to find its rhythm. Coach Tode Djakovic said his players needed to take lessons from that performance and follow clear principles on the pitch while showing their “true face”.

Sturm lost its weekend warm-up 2-0 to Austria Vienna and surrendered the league lead. Maierhofer said the team would need to gather its strength and deliver a good performance on Wednesday.
