Hiker survives night in nine-metre hole in Tyrol

A 54-year-old woman from Munich spent the night trapped in a nine-metre-deep hole after falling while hiking in Tyrol, BR reported, citing police. She was seriously injured and wearing only light hiking clothes as temperatures hovered just above zero.

The woman fell between rocks on Friday evening while descending Hinteres Sonnwendjoch, near Thiersee in the Kufstein district. She may initially have been unconscious and tried unsuccessfully to call emergency services around midnight, police said.

Two other hikers from Germany heard her cries for help at about 7.30am on Saturday. Rescue workers used a rope to pull her out.
