Upper Austria ski areas raise day-pass prices by three per cent

Day-pass prices will rise by around three per cent at many ski areas in Upper Austria this winter, ORF reports. Energy costs are a key factor behind the increase.

Helmut Holzinger, a spokesperson for Upper Austria’s cable car companies, said the higher prices would help fund investment in quality. He cited a new storage lake costing three million euros at Wurzeralm, a ski area.

The Dachstein West ski region has ruled out dynamic pricing, in which ticket prices change according to weather, snow conditions or demand. Board member Rupert Schiefer said the region wanted guests to have transparent, reliable prices, regardless of how far in advance they planned their visit.

Holzinger, who is responsible for the Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm ski areas, said dynamic pricing could benefit people planning a week’s holiday or a weekend visit to Hinterstoder. He also pointed to new discounts for single parents and grandparents.
