Linz children’s culture week offers 230 events

Linz will host its 14th Children’s Culture Week from October 14 to 25, with 35 cultural institutions offering around 230 events and activities, ORF reported. The programme includes theatre, concerts, workshops, exhibitions, guided tours, dance, music, readings and cinema for children, teenagers and families.
The event will open with an unusual recorder concert at the Kuddelmuddel children’s culture centre. Other activities invite young participants to be creative themselves. At the children’s culinary festival at the adult education centre, they can prepare fish and chips while learning about other food cultures.
Workshops will focus on dance, art and design. The Sonnenstein-Loft will offer a textile playground and a K-pop workshop, while SILK Fluegge KLISCOPE will give children the chance to try breakdancing.
Activities for babies and toddlers
The programme also includes activities for babies and toddlers. A workshop at the Pichling municipal library will explore contrast books and ways of encouraging an interest in books from an early age.
At the Musiktheater, children aged one and older can join the cuddly toy concert “Kreuz und Quer” for a musical journey. At the Kuddelmuddel children’s culture centre, children aged two and older can listen, participate and experiment during “Geschichten und Klänge”.
For its youngest cinema fans, Moviemento will show “Das kann ich schon allein!”, an afternoon of short films about young heroes and heroines.
Three days focused on books
The Linz Children’s and Young People’s Book Days will be a special focus of the programme. Over three days, visitors can explore books and stories through readings by authors, book theatre and a large book exhibition.
The free programme is aimed at children, teenagers and families, as well as school classes, after-school groups and kindergartens. Visitors can browse current children’s books, watch theatre performances and hear authors read from their work.
Children’s Culture Week has been held in Linz since 2013. ORF describes it as the most diverse cultural event for young audiences in Upper Austria. The article also says that around 30 Linz cultural institutions will offer nearly 250 events for toddlers, children, teenagers and families.
