Roof fire in Graz sends black smoke across city

Black smoke was visible across large parts of Graz on Tuesday after a fire broke out on the flat roof of a residential building on Marburger Straße, ORF reported. A large deployment of emergency crews quickly contained the blaze.

Graz’s professional fire brigade reached the scene after dozens of emergency calls. Firefighters used an aerial ladder to bring the fire and heavy smoke under control.

The fire started in insulation mats beneath a photovoltaic system covering the roof, fire brigade commander Gernot Ranftl said.

Police investigators are examining the cause of the fire. No one was injured.
