67-metre crane rises at Messepark expansion site

A 67-metre crane, currently believed to be the tallest in Vorarlberg, was erected on Monday at the construction site of the Messepark shopping centre expansion, ORF Vorarlberg reported. The crane is needed to allow three cranes to operate on different levels without interfering with one another.
Construction is progressing according to plan, Messepark managing director Nicole Schedler said. Excavation and piling work have been completed, and workers are currently concreting the underground car park.
The new crane has a reach of about 60 metres. Around 50 people are currently working on the site, roughly the same number as in June. Schedler said the workforce had changed little, while the construction equipment was now different.
Once the underground car park is complete, construction of the ground floor will begin. Schedler said large parts of it should be visible before Christmas.
The construction site covers an area almost as large as two football pitches. The project is expected to cost 200 million euros, with completion of the new shopping centre planned by the end of 2029. Work began at the Messepark site in mid-April.
