Favorite Fall turns Vienna district into festival stage

Vienna’s Favoriten district is hosting more than 60 free cultural events as the Favorite Fall festival turns the entire district into a stage for its third edition, ORF reports.

From Favoritenstrasse and the Sonnwendviertel to the Bohemian Prater, the Brotfabrik, the Water Tower and Volkspark Laaerberg, the programme includes concerts, performances, readings, exhibitions, workshops and discussions. Artists including Nino aus Wien, Das Schottische Prinzip and Kurpark will perform, with concerts held indoors and outdoors every day.

The festival brings together the Neue Wiener Lied scene, electronic music and contemporary folk music. Its programme also includes literature, film, exhibitions and activities for children.

A new format called Public Polis Process combines forum theatre, moderated fishbowl discussions and a live podcast. Young people from Favoriten are developing scenes about civic courage in workshops. The scenes will be performed publicly on three festival days, then analysed and discussed with audiences.

The festival is also presenting the Favorite-Map, a digital map of Favoriten’s cultural offerings developed with the Artifical Museum. The prototype shows venues, cultural cafes, initiatives and exhibitions in the public spaces where they are located, without requiring an app.

Three completed [Art]Walks will be added to the map at the start of the festival. These immersive audio walks combine journalism, art and augmented reality, leading visitors from Reumannplatz through the Brotfabrik to the Bohemian Prater. A total of 21 interactive augmented reality artefacts explore forgotten history and make the invisible visible.
