Netz für Kinder marks 30 years supporting vulnerable children

The non-profit Netz für Kinder has supported around 3,500 children in Vorarlberg over the past 30 years, ORF reported. The organisation marked its anniversary at a ceremony at the inatura in Dornbirn on Sunday.

Founded in 1996, Netz für Kinder helps children who do not have an easy start in life, particularly when public authorities cannot provide sufficient support. Its work can also benefit their families and wider surroundings.

“There are always situations in which families are simply in distress with children and young people in difficult circumstances,” said Conny Amann, who is responsible for public relations at the organisation. She cited poverty and parents feeling overwhelmed, including in connection with psychological issues and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The organisation aims to give vulnerable children a degree of normality through social-pedagogical children’s groups, volunteer support, the talENTE.mobil, the talENTE.schmiede and the talENTE.rat.

Chairwoman Katharina Wiesflecker said the anniversary marked three decades of commitment by many people. The organisation’s role, she said, was to supplement the resources provided by public authorities.

Netz für Kinder raises money through events including charity golf tournaments and its well-known duck races. This year’s event will be the ninth Bludesch duck race, organiser Johannes Pfefferkorn said. All proceeds from the race go to Netz für Kinder.

The anniversary celebration recognised the organisation’s work and its long-term support for children facing difficult circumstances.
