ORF reported that the water level at Saalachsee near Bad Reichenhall will be lowered in a controlled operation from Wednesday, September 23, for inspections of structures and repair work at the Kibling dam and other power plant facilities.
The power plant generates electricity for Deutsche Bahn. It is located south of Bad Reichenhall, near the federal road leading towards Schneizlreuth and Unken in the Pinzgau region.
Water levels and currents below the dam may change significantly during the work. For safety reasons, the shoreline areas will be closed temporarily, and water sports will not be permitted in the area.
Deutsche Bahn said the lowering of the reservoir should be completed by September 28 at the latest. The water will be lowered as evenly and carefully as possible to limit the impact on aquatic ecology and fish populations below the Kibling dam. Refilling is expected to begin on October 13.
Technical inspections of the power plant facilities are expected to continue until October 30.
