Illegal spray-painted crossing sparks debate in Oberndorf

An abolished pedestrian crossing in Oberndorf, Salzburg, has been spray-painted again, prompting debate and anger, ORF reported. Mayor Georg Djundja said unknown people repainted it during the night before Saturday, in what authorities consider illegal.

Djundja, who belongs to the Social Democratic Party, said the Salzburg-Umgebung district authority had ordered the crossing to be moved and the former crossing to be removed.

The main reason was the need for waiting and staging areas for lorries before a railway crossing. A 30 km/h speed limit was also imposed on the section, the mayor said.

Djundja said he understood the frustration of some residents over the relocation. However, he called for a factual debate and said people should not violate the law.
