The literary series Das Land liest is bringing Austrian and international literature to 15 venues across Lower Austria through 26 September, ORF reports. The programme includes children’s literature, feminist books and crime evenings.

The series visited Wölbling Elementary School in the St. Pölten district this week, where children attended a reading by children’s and young adult author Christoph Mauz. He presented stories featuring vampires, rattling skeletons and other unusual characters.

Das Land liest is being held for the sixth time. The programme is organised through a cooperation between Treffpunkt Bibliothek and Literaturhaus Niederösterreich, and is taking place in libraries across the state.

It features historical topics connected with Lower Austria as well as contemporary texts. Readings for children and young people are a central part of the programme, with organisers aiming to encourage younger audiences to read and enjoy books.
