Tivoli sells out for Wacker Innsbruck’s clash with Salzburg

FC Wacker Innsbruck’s home match against Austria Salzburg is sold out, ORF reported Friday, with 16,000 fans expected at Innsbruck’s Tivoli Stadium on October 16.

A further 2,000 tickets for the West derby were sold within two hours on Friday. The match will be classified as a high-risk fixture because of the rivalry between the fan groups.

The Tyrol state police directorate expects a larger police presence, including units from Tyrol reinforced by officers from Salzburg.

Wacker coach Sebastian Siller said the strong demand had encouraged his team. He also urged supporters to keep the match calm because many families and children would be in the stadium.

“We have to be role models for society and for the children,” Siller told ORF Tirol. He said he hoped for a great football occasion, adding that what happened outside the stadium was the responsibility of the respective fan groups.

Before the international break, Wacker will play away against Sturm Graz II on Saturday. Siller said the team’s aim was to win every match and described Sturm’s side as dangerous in attack and rich in talented players.

Ten days after the Salzburg match, Wacker will face WSG in another cup highlight. The Tivoli pitch is due to be replaced in the meantime.
