The ice rink at Mödling city pool will reopen in mid December after the town reversed its decision to close it, ORF reports. The reopening is planned as a temporary solution for the coming winter.
Visitors will have to pay higher prices. The exact opening hours and length of the season have not yet been decided.
The town had announced after the previous season that it would stop operating the rink because of high costs. A comprehensive renovation of the existing facility is no longer considered financially viable.
At the same time, the town is seeking a long term solution. Talks are under way with potential investors and landowners about building an ice hall, but its possible location, financing and opening date remain undecided.
The planned closure caused strong opposition in Mödling, with nearly 8,000 people signing a petition to preserve the rink. The initiative behind the petition continues to campaign for a permanent solution.
