Salzburg business run to draw 10,000 runners and close roads

More than 10,000 runners are expected at Salzburg’s 19th business run on Thursday, ORF reports. Numerous roads in the city centre will be closed for the event.

The first start is scheduled for 6.15 p.m. at Residenzplatz square. Further groups of 350 participants will set off at intervals until about 7.20 p.m.

The 5.7-kilometre route runs through the Old Town on the left bank of the Salzach, crosses the Müllner Steg footbridge and continues along Schwarzstraße and Imbergstraße before returning via the Mozartsteg footbridge to the finish at Residenzplatz. The event is due to end at about 8.30 p.m.

Road closures and diversions

Roads around the Mönchsberg and Kapuzinerberg will be closed to private motor traffic and public transport. Salzburg AG said public transport services in the city centre will be affected from 5.30 p.m., including routes from Müllner Hügel, Schwarzstraße, Dreifaltigkeitsgasse, Imbergstraße and Rudolfskai, as well as at Sigmundstor.

Traffic will be diverted at Dr.-Franz-Rehrl-Platz, Hildmannplatz, the Lindhofstraße and Gaswerkgasse junction, the Museumsdurchbruch and Auerspergstraße junction, Mirabellplatz and Paris-Lodron-Straße, and the Staatsbrücke bridge, which will be closed.

Vehicles will generally be able to leave Rudolfskai, Imbergstraße and Giselakai, Schwarzstraße from the Auerspergstraße junction, Müllner Hauptstraße from the Lindhofstraße junction, and Franz-Josef-Kai. However, the ÖAMTC warned that lengthy traffic stoppages are possible.

The organisers said the closures and diversions are expected to remain in place until about 9 p.m.
