Train derails at Purgstall station, leaving no one injured

A regional train on the Erlauftalbahn railway line derailed at the entrance to Purgstall station in Lower Austria early Thursday, with no injuries reported, ORF reported.

The train was travelling from Pöchlarn to Scheibbs at around 6.30 a.m. when it derailed on a set of points, according to ÖBB spokesperson Christopher Seif. It was travelling at very low speed.

ÖBB initially reported that about 50 passengers were on board, but later revised the figure to three. A second train travelling in the opposite direction was also affected and had around 16 passengers on board.

Firefighters, emergency services and ÖBB staff helped the passengers leave the trains.

An inspection of the railway line took place at around 9.30 a.m. to assess the next steps and determine the cause of the derailment. No results were available yet.

Replacement bus services have been operating between Wieselburg and Scheibbs and are expected to run throughout Thursday.
