Attersee unveils new works at Zell am See exhibition

Austrian artist Christian Ludwig Attersee is exhibiting works from this year and last year in Zell am See, ORF reported. The exhibition follows an operation and runs until September 21.

Attersee, who is among Austria’s internationally best-known painters, took his artist name from Lake Attersee, where he spent part of his youth. Water also appears repeatedly in his work.

Before training as a visual artist, Attersee achieved major successes as an athlete and was a three-time national sailing champion. He later devoted himself to painting and has long surpassed his former goal of creating 10,000 pictures.

“We are now at number 10,570, I believe, and I hope it continues,” Attersee said.

At the opening in Zell am See, three special works were unveiled. They depict the design for next year’s centenary of the Schmittenhöhebahn railway. Attersee painted the works in three different colours to present Zell am See as broadly and positively as possible.

“I want to bring together the world of Zell am See, the lake and the mountains at this railway, in a very positive way and so that all four seasons and the activities people can do, from skiing to swimming, can be seen,” he said. “That applies to local people and tourists.”

People in the Pinzgau district capital are proud of the artist, who was born in Bratislava, grew up at Lake Attersee and now lives in Vienna. Zell am See gallery owner Roman Hollaus described him as free of airs and graces and respectful towards others.

The Attersee exhibition is on display in Zell am See city centre until September 21.
