Media publisher Jürg Marquard dies at 81

Swiss entrepreneur and publisher Jürg Marquard has died at the age of 81 after a long illness, SRF reported. Blick was the first outlet to report his death.

Marquard founded and owned the Marquard Media Group and was regarded as one of Switzerland’s most successful self-made entrepreneurs.

He launched the youth magazine Pop in 1965 and also worked as a radio and television host. His magazine Pop/Rocky became the second-largest youth magazine in the German-speaking market, behind Bravo.

In 1981, Marquard achieved another success in the German-language magazine market by publishing Cosmopolitan.

He became widely known in 2005 as co-producer and a member of the jury on the successful SRF television show Traumjob. From 2019, he appeared as an investor on Die Höhle der Löwen Schweiz, supporting young entrepreneurs.
