School bus crash injures three in Leonding

Three people were injured when a school bus collided with a passenger car in Leonding, a town in the Linz-Land district, on Monday, ORF reported. The 59-year-old car driver was trapped in her vehicle and had to be freed by firefighters.

According to police, a 48-year-old school bus driver from Linz was travelling towards the centre on Wegscheider Straße at about 8 a.m. The bus was carrying a 60-year-old supervisor from Linz and two pupils from the Urfahr-Umgebung district, aged 15 and 13.

The collision happened as the bus was leaving a roundabout and the 59-year-old driver, who is from the Linz-Land district, was approaching from the opposite direction. The car was severely damaged and the bus sustained significant damage.

The injured people were the bus driver, the car driver and the 15-year-old passenger. After receiving initial treatment, all three were taken to hospital by ambulance. Firefighters from two stations were called to assist with the rescue. They said the woman was trapped but not severely so.

Emergency crews cleaned up spilled operating fluids and used a sweeping machine to clear the road. The L1389, also known as Harter-Plateau-Straße or Wegscheider Straße, was closed for about an hour between the roundabout near Herderstraße and the junctions with Am Südgarten and Georg-Erber-Straße. Bus services were diverted.
