Bavaria forecast brings rain, sunshine and storms before Wiesn

BR reported that Bavaria is facing a changeable weather week, with rain, sunshine and thunderstorms before temperatures reach up to 27 degrees Celsius. The forecast also includes an outlook for the first weekend of the Oktoberfest, known locally as the Wiesn.

A weather front will initially move across the state, bringing rain in many areas. High-pressure conditions will then increasingly take hold at the start of the week.

Rain gives way to sunshine on Monday

Clouds will remain widespread on Monday morning. Rain is still possible, particularly between the Alps and the Bavarian Forest, while northern Bavaria could see a few final drops near the Danube. The skies will gradually clear during the afternoon, with the sun appearing more frequently towards evening. Temperatures will rise to between 18 and 24 degrees.

Tuesday will be the warmest day

After some local fog in the morning, the German Weather Service expects plenty of sunshine across Bavaria on Tuesday. A few cumulus clouds may develop around midday. Highs will range from 23 to 27 degrees, with the warmest temperatures expected in the Lower Main region.

The calm weather will not last long. Rain will move into Bavaria from the northwest on Wednesday, with thunderstorms possible in some places. The sun may appear briefly before and after the rain. Temperatures will reach between 18 and 23 degrees.

Mixed conditions on Thursday

Thursday will generally be pleasant, with sunshine alternating with cumulus clouds. Isolated drops or showers are possible near the Bavarian Forest and the eastern edge of the Alps. Highs will mostly range from 17 to 21 degrees.

Clouds will move in from the northwest overnight into Friday. It will initially remain mostly dry, before light rain develops in parts of Franconia. Temperatures will fall to between 5 and 11 degrees.

Mild temperatures expected for Oktoberfest opening

For the opening of the 191st Oktoberfest, the German Weather Service expects significantly milder conditions than during last year’s opening ceremony. After the heat record in 2025, temperatures are forecast to reach only up to 20 degrees this year. DWD meteorologist Dirk Mewes described the conditions as “not too warm, not too cold”. The service expects about six hours of sunshine during the first festival day.

Temperatures are expected to fall to around 11 degrees in central Munich overnight into Sunday. Forecasts also indicate light winds of about 35 kilometres per hour over the Theresienwiese festival grounds, although Mewes said gusts would remain limited.

More clouds are expected on Sunday, the second day of the festival. A few drops of rain cannot be ruled out in Munich, according to the DWD meteorologist. Temperatures are currently forecast to be around 22 degrees.
