A 50-year-old hiker suffered serious injuries after falling 70 to 100 metres during a mountain tour near the Brennerspitze mountain in Neustift in the Stubai Valley, ORF reported.

The woman slipped on a trail while descending and fell over steep, grass-covered terrain, police said. She suffered severe head injuries.

Her 51-year-old husband, who was hiking with her, alerted rescuers at about 12.20 p.m. A rescue helicopter winched the woman from the terrain with support from mountain rescue teams.

She was then flown to Innsbruck Clinic.
