Eleven million euro Lotto jackpot draws Burgenland crowds

The second eightfold jackpot in Austrian Lotto history will be drawn on Sunday, with around 11 million euros in the prize pool, ORF reported. The prospect of a major win has sent more people to lottery outlets across Burgenland.

Just eight weeks ago, Austria saw its first eightfold jackpot. A ticket containing the winning numbers for the 12 million euro prize was filled out in Styria, but the winner has still not come forward, Günter Engelhardt of the Austrian Lotteries said on Friday.

At a lottery outlet in Eisenstadt, short queues repeatedly formed at the counter during an ORF Burgenland visit on Friday. “The crowds are naturally much bigger,” outlet operator Sabrina Marchhart said.

More entries are being played than in a normal draw, she said. Regular Lotto players are submitting additional entries, while people who normally do not play are also trying their luck.

If nobody picks the correct six-number combination on Sunday, the jackpot would become a ninefold jackpot, Engelhardt said. That would be a first for Lotto. The jackpot sequence could theoretically continue until someone wins, he said, adding that a winner is guaranteed eventually.
