Burgenland pharmacists renew breast cancer prevention partnership

The Burgenland Chamber of Pharmacists and Cancer Aid Burgenland have extended their cooperation to encourage more women to attend breast cancer screening examinations, ORF reported.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, and early diagnosis significantly improves treatment options, according to the report.

“A breast cancer diagnosis affects not only the patient herself, but usually also her family, friends and entire personal environment,” said Dieter Schmid, president of the Burgenland Chamber of Pharmacists. He said pharmacies were important partners in raising awareness of prevention because they were local and easily accessible points of contact for health questions.

Andrea Konrath, managing director of Cancer Aid Burgenland, said the organisation was grateful for every event and initiative that helped draw attention to screening. “Prevention is the most effective therapy,” she said.

Burgenland Parliament President Astrid Eisenkopf also welcomed the continuation of the partnership. As a Pink Ribbon ambassador, she said it was encouraging to see institutions and individuals organise events around October’s breast cancer awareness month and beyond, with the aim of informing people, raising awareness and showing solidarity.

As part of the Pink Ribbon campaign, the Burgenland Chamber of Pharmacists is providing 3,000 specially designed hand creams. They will be distributed at Pink Ribbon events across Austria in exchange for voluntary donations. The proceeds will support cancer patients and Cancer Aid’s information and counselling work.
