14-year-old admits fleeing police on e-moped

A 14-year-old endangered several people while riding an unregistered e-moped in Graz’s Liebenau district and fled from police, ORF reported. Police identified him after receiving information from witnesses.

The incident happened at about 7.30 p.m. on Monday, when a police patrol noticed the e-moped. Two people were riding it, with a man at the controls and a woman as passenger.

The driver was travelling at a greatly excessive speed. Police tried several times to stop him using flashing lights, a siren and loudspeaker announcements, but he fled, including along the Mur cycle path.

Several people had to jump aside. A child fell on the cycle path but was not injured.

After police identified the driver based on information from witnesses, the 14-year-old initially denied riding the e-moped. He admitted it shortly afterwards.

Police believe several people were endangered and are asking witnesses or anyone affected to contact Graz-Liebenau police station on 059133/6588.
