Firefighters evacuate 41 passengers from stranded train

Firefighters evacuated 41 passengers from an ÖBB train after overhead line damage left it stranded between Hötzelsdorf-Geras and Irnfritz on Tuesday evening, ORF reported.

The train stopped on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn at about 8.30pm and could not continue, according to the ÖBB duty service. Several fire brigades from the Horn district responded.

Firefighters escorted the passengers from the train across a walkway and transported them by fire engines to the nearest station, in Sigmundsherberg.

Rail replacement service in place

ÖBB said repair work was expected to continue until around midday on Wednesday. A rail replacement service has been arranged.

The ORF traffic service advised commuters to consider alternative transport, including cars and car-sharing, because only some buses would operate for local services.
