Signal box failure disrupts Munich Nuremberg rail line

A signal box failure has blocked part of the Munich Nuremberg rail line for hours, disrupting ICE and regional services, BR reported. Trains must wait at suitable points, be diverted or cancelled because the section between Nuremberg and Feucht cannot be used.
The disruption affects the high speed line, where ICE trains and Regional Express line 1 normally travel between Nuremberg and Munich via Ingolstadt. Some ICE services are being diverted via Treuchtlingen and Augsburg, causing delays of up to 40 minutes, according to Deutsche Bahn’s disruption service.
ICE trains from Vienna towards Dortmund are also being diverted from Regensburg to Munich instead of continuing northwest.
It was initially unclear how long the disruption would last or what caused the failure at the signal box in Fischbach near Nuremberg. A railway spokesperson said there was no forecast yet. The signal box has been out of operation since 9 a.m.
