A 43 year old mother and her two children were rescued from Hochstaufen after they became stranded on an alpine trail, ORF reported. The Reichenhall mountain rescue service brought the family to safety on Monday afternoon.
The woman and her 10 and 11 year old children called for help at about 1:30 p.m. after they could no longer continue in either direction on the upper third of the trail over the Steinernen Jäger towards the Reichenhaller Haus.
The Christoph 14 rescue helicopter dropped two mountain rescuers at the scene, at an elevation of nearly 1,650 metres. The rescuers secured the family from Lower Bavaria so the helicopter could pick them up with a winch in several approaches after an intermediate landing at Mittelstaufen, then fly them down to the valley.
