Swiss electricity prices will fall by an average of 4 percent in 2027, SRF reports. For a typical larger household in the H4 category, that amounts to around 50 Swiss francs less per year.
The Federal Electricity Commission, ElCom, said tariffs would stabilise at a level that remains relatively high. It attributed the reduction mainly to lower electricity procurement costs.
Price changes vary considerably between grid operators. The impact on each household depends on its usual electricity consumption, with ElCom using different consumer profiles to compare costs.
For a municipality comparison, the figures show the standard electricity product in each municipality. Where there is more than one standard supplier, the comparison uses the provider with the widest coverage or, if that information is unavailable, the cheapest provider.
ElCom’s profiles include a two-room apartment with an electric stove using 1,600 kilowatt-hours per year, a four-room apartment with an electric stove using 2,500 kilowatt-hours, a five-room apartment with an electric stove and tumble dryer using 4,500 kilowatt-hours, and a five-room detached house with an electric stove, electric boiler and tumble dryer using 7,500 kilowatt-hours.
The electricity price consists of five components: the grid usage tariff, which covers transporting electricity from the power station to the home and now also includes the costs of the winter reserve; the energy price; municipal and cantonal charges and fees; metering tariffs; and the federal grid surcharge, which supports renewable energy and the restoration of waterways.
The grid surcharge is set annually by the Federal Council and is the same throughout Switzerland.
