Tyrol had Austria’s highest fuel prices, AK finds

Tyrol was Austria’s most expensive federal state for fuel from mid-August to early September, according to an analysis by the Tyrol Chamber of Labour, reported by ORF. The study also found significant price differences within Tyrol.

The Imst district and the fuel stations surveyed in the Wipptal and Stubaital valleys were particularly expensive.

The Chamber of Labour collected current prices twice a day, in the morning and evening, on 21 days between August 13 and September 2. It analysed 4,100 individual prices from 93 fuel stations, along with 1,564 median values for districts, federal states and Austria from the E-Control fuel price calculator. The analysis covered 5,664 price figures in total.

Tyrol’s average federal-state median price for diesel was 2.081 euros per litre. Salzburg and Vorarlberg followed at about 2.052 euros, while Burgenland recorded the lowest figure at 2.010 euros. The difference between Tyrol and the cheapest federal state was therefore 7.1 cents per litre.

For Super 95 petrol, Tyrol’s average federal-state median was 1.847 euros per litre. Salzburg followed at 1.816 euros and Vorarlberg at 1.808 euros. Carinthia was the cheapest federal state at 1.773 euros, making the difference between Tyrol and Carinthia 7.3 cents per litre.

Within Tyrol, Imst was the most expensive district for both diesel and Super 95 during the period studied. Its average district median was about 8.3 cents per litre higher for both fuels than in Innsbruck, the cheapest location in the state.

The differences were sometimes larger between Innsbruck and the surveyed valleys. Fuel prices in the Wipptal were on average 10.5 cents per litre higher for diesel and 10.8 cents higher for Super 95. For a 50-litre tank, that corresponds to additional costs of about 5.27 euros and 5.42 euros respectively.

In the similarly expensive Stubaital, the average difference from Innsbruck was 9.8 cents per litre for diesel and 10.8 cents for Super 95.
