A1 truck crash traps passenger and causes 12 kilometre jam

A truck crash on the A1 motorway near Melk left a female passenger trapped and caused a 12 kilometre traffic jam, ORF reported. The motorway was temporarily closed in the direction of Salzburg after a truck and two cars were involved.

The accident happened at about 11.30 a.m., according to the Loosdorf volunteer fire service in Melk district. The cause remains unknown.

Three of the four people involved were able to leave the vehicles on their own with minor injuries. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the trapped passenger. An emergency doctor transported her to hospital.

The Loosdorf volunteer fire service responded, while a recovery crane from the St Pölten city fire service was called in to remove the truck. Two emergency medical vehicles from the Red Cross also attended.

By 1.45 p.m., the hard shoulder and the first lane were clear, and traffic was being guided past the crash. The closure of the second and third lanes was expected to end by 2.30 p.m. ASFINAG crews cleaned the crash scene.
