Police have solved a series of bicycle thefts in the town of Podersdorf am See in the Neusiedl am See district, ORF reported. Two Ukrainian nationals were arrested last Friday shortly after another alleged offence.

After several bicycle thefts, police launched targeted investigations and increased surveillance. In the early hours of Friday, a witness saw a man fleeing on a stolen electric bicycle and initially stopped him. The suspect continued fleeing on the bicycle and then on foot.

Police officers arrested the 35-year-old shortly afterwards while he was carrying the suspected stolen bicycle. They also found a suspicious vehicle in a car park in the town. Inside, officers discovered another suspected stolen bicycle and documents believed to be linked to thefts from vehicles.

A 39-year-old man was stopped and arrested near the vehicle soon afterwards. Police also seized the vehicle key and various tools believed to have been used in the offences.

Some of the recovered bicycles have already been returned to their owners. Investigators are still working to identify the owners of the remaining bicycles and establish the total damage, police said. On the order of the Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office, both suspects were taken to Eisenstadt prison.
