A fire in a housing estate in Scheibbs forced the closure of a nearby hospital’s helicopter landing pad on Sunday morning, ORF reported. Several rubbish bins caught fire, apparently melting a gas line and causing a leak.
Firefighters from Scheibbs and Neustift arrived after police had begun extinguishing the flames. The emergency services then notified EVN and sealed off the residential area. Residents were told to keep their windows closed.
Four fire brigades with more than 20 members took part in the operation. The nearby Klinikum Scheibbs hospital’s helicopter landing pad was closed for safety reasons while the crews worked.
The operation ended after about two hours, and EVN technicians repaired the gas leak. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
