A 64-year-old Austrian driver was injured in a crash on the Inntal motorway near Stams on Saturday evening, ORF reported. The motorway was temporarily closed towards Innsbruck.
Police said the man was travelling towards Innsbruck at about 6.30 p.m. when his car began to skid for an as-yet unexplained reason. The vehicle hit the concrete barrier separating the carriageways several times before coming to a stop in the second lane.
Emergency services took the driver to a hospital in Innsbruck for treatment. No other road users were involved, according to police.
The motorway was completely closed towards Innsbruck between Mötz and Telfs-West for a time, causing traffic congestion. It was later reduced to one lane during the clean-up operation.
Rescue teams and an emergency doctor attended the scene, along with the Silz fire brigade, which sent three vehicles and 20 firefighters. An ASFINAG patrol and officers from the Imst motorway police also took part in the operation.
