Driver suspected of microsleep hits two cyclists in Weer

Two road cyclists were injured after a 62-year-old driver hit them while overtaking near Weer in Tyrol on Saturday morning, ORF reported. Police said the woman showed signs of fatigue and tested positive for alcohol.

The crash happened at about 10.30 a.m. The two men, aged 27 and 28, were cycling west when the driver began overtaking. She is suspected of falling into a microsleep, drifting into the right-hand lane and hitting both cyclists.

Both cyclists were taken to Schwaz Hospital with injuries. Their bicycles were badly damaged, while the car sustained minor damage. Another woman witnessed the crash.

Police, emergency services and volunteer firefighters from Weer and Schwaz attended the scene.
