The Centre launches 2027 campaign, seeks second Federal Council seat

The Centre has opened its campaign for Switzerland’s 2027 federal elections and reaffirmed its goal of regaining a second seat on the Federal Council, SRF reported.

Party president Philipp Matthias Bregy told delegates at the party’s assembly in Granges-Paccot in the canton of Fribourg that The Centre wanted to become strong enough on its own for its demand for a second Federal Council seat to become “a matter of course”.

The party plans to highlight its own positions rather than copy another political party. Bregy said The Centre needed to take a more assertive role and establish itself as a strong, independent force in the political centre.

Bregy said the party could respond to the concerns of the population. “We must not leave issues such as security, migration, purchasing power, health or fairness between generations to the political extremes,” said the National Council member from Valais. He expects The Centre to increase its share of the vote in 2027.

The delegates also backed additional financing for AHV pensions through a higher value-added tax and recommended approving a relaxation of the War Material Act. Voters will decide on both proposals on November 29.
