Two hikers die in separate falls in Styria

Two hikers died in separate accidents in Styria on Friday, ORF reported. A 22-year-old Czech woman fell near the Großer Bösenstein in the Murtal district, while a 44-year-old German man died after falling in difficult terrain near Schiedeck in Rohrmoos, in the Liezen district.

The Czech woman was hiking with her father on the trail between Großer Bösenstein and Sonntagskarspitz when she fell. She plunged about 150 metres over rocky terrain and suffered fatal injuries. A police helicopter crew recovered her body.

The woman’s father was assisted by a crisis intervention team.

The German man was part of a four-person hiking group when he fell in the Schiedeck area. His companions were unable to descend to him and alerted emergency services.

A rescue helicopter was sent to the scene, but its crew could only confirm that the man had died. The other hikers were flown down to the valley and also received support from a crisis intervention team.
