Corendon drops Linz to Hurghada flights for summer 2027

Corendon Airlines will no longer offer flights from Linz Airport to Hurghada in Egypt during the summer 2027 schedule, ORF reported on Friday. The airline will also reduce services to Antalya in Turkey and Heraklion in Greece.

The changes will take effect at the end of March 2027. Hurghada will remain on the winter schedule from the end of October for the time being.

Flights to Antalya will fall from four to two per week, while services to Heraklion will be reduced from three to two weekly. Linz Airport said the cuts were not due to weak demand, as the affected routes had been well booked. Airport spokesman Ingo Hagedorn attributed the decision to Corendon’s strategic realignment.

The airport is in talks with Corendon, other airlines and tour operators about replacement services. It has already secured an additional Antalya connection, which should keep the destination reachable at least three times a week next summer. The airline operating the service has not yet been announced.

Decisions on replacement flights to Hurghada and Heraklion are still pending. The airport expects further results in the coming weeks.

The aviation industry has cited rising fuel costs as one factor behind the changes. Corendon said it continuously adjusts its schedules in response to market developments, competition and economic conditions, and regularly reassesses demand and costs.

The reductions come as Linz Airport faces financial difficulties. Ryanair will also end its winter service to London, citing Austria’s air transport tax. The airline will continue flying from Linz to Bari in Italy and Alicante in Spain.

Changes are also being discussed to the airport’s ownership structure. Upper Austria is negotiating to take over the city’s share, which would temporarily make the state the sole owner. Existing plans then call for preparations for a partial privatisation.
