Aargau authorities launch probe after finding new Untersiggenthal data

Aargau authorities have opened a further criminal investigation after a house search in the Untersiggenthal abuse case uncovered storage devices containing additional incriminating material, SRF reported, citing the public prosecutor’s office.

The new investigation concerns the alleged perpetrator and “further similar offences”. The data has not yet been fully analysed, but investigators have so far found no recordings involving new victims.

Police and prosecutors received information about possible evidence after charges were filed against the former Aargau cantonal parliament member. The information concerned rooms outside the accused man’s living quarters. Authorities had previously had no indication that he used those rooms for such purposes.

Specialists from the cantonal police are examining the storage devices, particularly for evidence of previously unknown offences. An initial review indicated that they contained extensive material, which was probably connected to the offences already covered by the indictment.

If investigators identify women who are already known to the authorities in the recordings, the public prosecutor’s office will inform them directly.

The public prosecutor’s office charged the 57 year old former cantonal parliament member in July. The charges include attempted murder and serious sexual offences, and prosecutors are seeking a life sentence. The man from the Baden district is being held in early imprisonment, according to the public prosecutor’s office.
