pedestrian crossing, road accident, Völkermarkt

A 24-year-old man was injured when a 77-year-old driver hit him on a pedestrian crossing in Völkermarkt on Wednesday evening, ORF reported.

The man was thrown onto the car’s windscreen and remained injured at the scene. The crash happened at about 7.10pm on the Packer Straße B70, shortly after an access road to a department store.

Police said the driver was travelling from Griffen towards the town centre and apparently failed to see the pedestrian as he crossed the road.

First responders, an emergency doctor and ambulance staff treated the man before he was taken to Klagenfurt Hospital with injuries of unspecified severity. A breathalyser test on the driver was negative.
