Motocross rider dies after crashing into fallen tree

A motocross rider died in a crash on a forest road in Köstendorf near St. Stefan an der Gail in the Hermagor district on Wednesday afternoon, ORF reported. His 16-year-old son was seriously injured.

The two riders, a father and son, were reportedly travelling together when they crashed into a fallen tree after a crest. The tree had been left there by windthrow, although police could not initially confirm the details.

The father suffered fatal injuries. His son was flown by helicopter to Klagenfurt Hospital. Five fire brigades took part in the difficult recovery operation.
