EVN enters German fast-charging market with BayWa acquisition

Austrian energy provider EVN is entering Germany’s fast-charging infrastructure market by acquiring BayWa Mobility Charging, ORF reported. The deal includes 30 locations with 170 fast-charging points, mainly in Bavaria.

The acquired company currently operates 30 locations across Germany. EVN plans to expand the network to 54 locations with 306 charging points by 2027. The purchase price was not disclosed.

EVN chief executive Stefan Szyszkowitz said the acquisition would strengthen the company’s position in one of Europe’s most important markets. The energy provider expects the expansion into Germany to generate further growth.

EVN has so far operated mainly in its home market of Austria, where it says it runs more than 3,800 public charging points. The company plans to invest around 100 million euros in expanding the business by 2030.

For German agricultural and trading group BayWa, the sale is part of an ongoing corporate restructuring. The company is withdrawing from the capital-intensive construction and operation of charging stations and plans to focus on services such as fleet management.
