A roof fire broke out in Oberhenndorf in the Jennersdorf district on Monday evening, with about 50 firefighters from three fire services responding. No one was injured, ORF reported.
Fire services from Henndorf and Jennersdorf initially attended the scene. Grieselstein firefighters were later called in because of heavy smoke and the need for additional breathing-apparatus teams.
While fighting the fire, crews checked the inside of the house and found that nobody was inside. They also opened sections of the roof covering to reach hidden embers. After a final inspection with a thermal imaging camera, the fire was officially declared out at 10.40 p.m. However, crews continued mopping-up work throughout the night.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unclear, according to the fire service.
