Police seize moped plates and licence after Gleisdorf checks

Police removed the number plates from two mopeds and temporarily seized one driving licence during checks in Gleisdorf on Saturday, ORF reported. The operation followed complaints about groups of moped and motorcycle riders and resulted in several administrative reports.

Police in Weiz had received increasing complaints in recent weeks about considerable noise and apparently modified vehicles. The groups were believed to have organised joint rides through social media.

During a major traffic operation on Saturday evening, officers responded to reports of a large group of moped riders in the Gleisdorf area. They found about 50 people riding two-wheeled vehicles and carried out targeted checks.

Officers stopped 15 moped riders and examined their vehicles on a moped testing bench. They removed the number plates from two mopeds because of defects or technical modifications. In another case, they prohibited the rider from continuing because the moped was not registered for road use. Police also filed several administrative reports and issued on-the-spot fines.

Police carried out about 100 alcohol checks, resulting in five reports for driving under the influence of alcohol. In one case, officers temporarily seized the driver’s licence.
