Boris Bukowski marks 80th birthday at Purkersdorf Open Air

Boris Bukowski celebrated his 80th birthday and 65th anniversary on stage at the Purkersdorf Open Air, ORF reported. The event featured Austrian pop veterans and younger performers including Thomas Spitzer, Ewald Pfleger, Nino aus Wien, Anna Buchegger and LEMO.

Bukowski performed with his band, the Bunten Hunden, singing hits such as “Fandango”, “Trag meine Liebe wie einen Mantel” and “Kokain”.

Thomas Spitzer, the mastermind behind the Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung, prepared a special birthday tribute for his longtime friend. He wrote a new version of the EAV hit “Burli”, including the line: “Boris, Boris, Boris – my God, will he never grow old?” Spitzer performed it with LEMO, a multiple Amadeus Award winner.

Ewald Pfleger also performed his hit “Live is Live” with Bukowski and Anna Buchegger. The concert ended with “Für immer Jung”, performed by all the musicians together. Admission to the Purkersdorf Open Air was free.

The concert was broadcast on Radio Niederösterreich and ORF III. It is available to listen to on ORF Sound and watch on ORF ON.

The first Purkersdorf Open Air event in June also honoured an Austrian pop legend. Georg Danzer, who has since died, would have turned 80 this year.
