Chainsaw strikes 74-year-old man during forestry work

A 74-year-old man was injured when a chainsaw struck him in the head during forestry work in Bad Großpertholz, a municipality in the Gmünd district of Lower Austria, on Saturday morning, ORF reported. He was flown to Linz Accident Hospital.

According to police, a 44-year-old man from the Gmünd district had carried out a plunge cut on a tree. The older man was checking the direction of the cut when the chainsaw was thrown upwards by a kickback and hit him in the head.

The man suffered lacerations despite wearing protective clothing and a helmet, the Lower Austria State Police Directorate said. He was flown to the hospital by the Christophorus 2 emergency medical helicopter.
