Man investigated for attempted murder after attack on ex-girlfriend

A 63-year-old man from Salzburg is being investigated on suspicion of attempted murder after a brutal attack on his former girlfriend, ORF reported, citing Salzburg media.

The man allegedly ambushed the woman in the city of Salzburg on August 10 while wearing a balaclava. He is accused of choking her and attacking her with a rolling pin, causing numerous injuries. Police said the suspect is in pre-trial detention.

According to the Salzburger Nachrichten and Kronen Zeitung, the man allegedly struck the woman repeatedly on the head from behind and pushed her down a staircase. He is also accused of repeatedly threatening to kill her.

The public prosecutor’s office believes the man acted with intent to kill, the reports said. The attack allegedly stopped when the suspect became exhausted while the woman resisted and promised to withdraw their separation.
