17-year-old English tourist dies after drowning at Caumasee

A 17-year-old tourist from England died on Thursday after getting into difficulties while swimming in Caumasee, a lake near Flims in Graubünden, SRF reported, citing Graubünden cantonal police.

The accident happened at around 5:45 p.m. as the teenager was swimming from the lake’s island towards the sunbathing lawn. He got into difficulty for reasons that remain unclear and went under the water.

Several people saw what happened, went to help and brought him to the island’s shore. Medical professionals who happened to be there immediately began resuscitation efforts.

A Rega helicopter took the teenager to Graubünden Cantonal Hospital in Chur, where he died later that evening.

Graubünden cantonal police and the public prosecutor’s office have opened an investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident.
