Former ÖVP lawmaker and mayor Alfred Rohr dies

Alfred Rohr, a former ÖVP member of the Burgenland state parliament and longtime mayor of Stadtschlaining, died on Thursday in his 81st year, ORF reported, citing the ÖVP Burgenland.

Rohr served on Stadtschlaining’s municipal council from 1977 and was elected mayor in 1992. He held the office until 2006. From 2003 to 2005, he was a member of the state parliament.

ÖVP Burgenland chairman Christoph Zarits said Rohr had devoted his energy and commitment to serving people for decades. He praised the late politician for his integrity and sense of responsibility.

Rohr originally came from Carinthia. He attended the Protestant teacher training college in Oberschützen and initially worked as a primary school teacher in Podersdorf and Oberdorf. He later taught at the lower secondary school in Stadtschlaining.
