A large fire broke out at a waste disposal company in Graz’s Puntigam district overnight on Wednesday, ORF reported. No one was injured, and investigators are examining the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
The professional fire brigade was alerted by an automatic fire alarm at 12:43 a.m. The fire was discovered in a storage hall at the company on Auer-Welsbach-Gasse.
Firefighters used several C hoses, a mobile water cannon and the water cannon mounted on a ladder truck. The fire was under control by 2:18 a.m.
A wheel loader and an excavator were then used to pull apart and loosen the stored waste so that hidden embers could be located and extinguished. Firefighters declared the fire out at 8:48 a.m.
Thirty-eight members of the professional fire brigade and nine members of the Graz volunteer fire brigade attended the operation. Police have opened an investigation into the cause.
