Soldier lightly injured in shooting exercise in Bruckneudorf

A soldier was lightly injured during a shooting exercise at the military training area in Bruckneudorf, Burgenland, ORF reported.

The accident happened on Tuesday during live firing with an assault rifle and a pistol. A recruit fired an assault rifle at a wall and was injured in the thigh by fragments, which the Austrian Armed Forces said may have been pieces of the projectile.

The injury was superficial. A medic provided initial treatment at the scene before the recruit was taken to hospital in Eisenstadt. He was discharged later the same day and returned to his barracks.

The military command has appointed an investigation commission to examine the incident.
